Our team was involved in providing technical support to the UNDP Forest regeneration project targeting Zambias Central province. Specifically, we were involved in community triggering process for adoption of community based natural resource management framework. The team deployed various participatory rural appraisal tools to mobilize and sensitize communities on benefits of resource conservation, formation of village level resource management groups, preparation of local area land use plans, and resource management bylaws tied to the land use plans. The team prepared GIS based resource maps, and undertook training sessions on participatory GIS and remote sensing for Natural Resource Management. Our team also handled the livelihood assessment component, undertook community trainings on livelihood intervention options and strategies.
In Kenya, our team concluded a baseline study on State of Climate Change Responses and Mitigation in the Lake Victoria Basin, with focus on Republic of Kenya. The study was targeted at the following key sectors: Water and Sanitation, Energy, Fisheries and Agriculture. The findings were used for programming different interventions (legal, policy and projects) for the basin to adopt to the variability of climate.
Our team was involved in providing technical support to the UNDP Forest regeneration project in Zambia’s Central province. The project targets both climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. Mitigation is to be achieved through assisted natural regeneration of degraded forests, as well as re-afforestation measures and land water conservation initiatives. Adaptation is to be achieved via promotion of alternative livelihoods, live hood diversification, and value chain development to improve earnings from natural resources. Other measures include promotion of alternative fuel, and efficient production of fuel wood. Our team was involved in the community mobilization and community trigger process, to sensitize them on nexus between livelihood, natural resource degradation and poverty. We undertook sensitization on benefits of sustainable resource utilization, and the need for community level interventions in sustainable natural resource management. We undertook participatory mapping of resources, and guided the communities in developing bylaws for resource utilization and management. We further supported them to come up with local level land use maps to guide resource use and management, and formation of Village action groups as the preferred institutional framework for implementation of the plans. Our livelihood teams then undertook a livelihood assessment and developed a participatory livelihood improvement program targeting forest resources (timber and non-timber products), agriculture, and energy.
Our team was involved in Sector-based Impact Assessments for the climate change Vulnerability in the Lake Victoria Basin covering Burundi Kenya Uganda and Tanzania. Our focus was on Water and Sanitation, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Energy and Health. Based on this we were able to participate in adaptation planning to climate proof these sectors from adverse impacts of climate variability.
Our team was involved in the Midterm evaluation of Africa Adaptation Project II in Sub-Saharan Africa focusing on 12 WWF Country Offices (including Zambia, Kenya, Mozambique Tanzania Uganda, as well as Namibia, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Madagascar, Central African Republic and Gambia We have been involved in evaluations of different community level projects key among them
Our team has been involved in numerous baseline surveys key among them:
Our firm takes the pride in being the lead team that prepared Kenya’s National Action Plan for Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining” in accordance with the Minnamata Conventions. The assignment was commissioned by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, as part of its response mechanism to address the risk of mercury pollution form artisanal and small scale old Mining. Our team is currently the National Consultant for the Chemical Observatory Project by UNEP, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment and Forest and the Africa Institute. As a party to the Stockholm Convention, Kenya has an obligation to protect human health and the environment from Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). Through the African ChemObs project, Kenya intends to develop a prototype of national integrated health and environment observatory, including a core set of indicators enabling data aggregation, to provide timely and evidence based information to predict, prevent and reduce chemicals risk to human health and the environment. ‘[The project’s overall objective is to contribute to improved health and environment protection through strengthening national and regional institutions, developing country owned plans of actions and implementing priority chemicals and waste related interventions.

Our team was also involved in the development of a programme for drought resilience and sustainable livelihoods among pastoral communities in the Greater Horn of Africa through drought preparedness and enhanced resilience. The programme is known as Drought Resilience and Sustainable Livelihood Programme being implemented by member countries and supported by the Division for Agriculture and Agro-Industry One (OSAN.1). The puporse of the programme was to develop mechanisms for drought management, food security and sustainable livelihoods through enhanced pastoral resources management, infrustrure development, and alternative livelihoods for pastoral communities in the Horn of Africa.
Our team was involved in GIS mapping of resources in 12 districts in Central province, Zambia. The team prepared a GIS based data base of the resources, and conducted GIS training for Resource management targeting different district staff drawn from the local councils, department of agriculture, forest department, social department and community development department. Our team was involved in mapping of Mercury pollution hotspots from artisanal and small scale gold mining in Migori County. The exercise produced an interactive map showing mining areas, mercury use and risk of pollution from the mining activities Our team has also been involved in mining of active mining sites for artisanal and small scale Gold mining operations in Kakamega County
